Cleaning maintenance aluminium windows

Cleaning & maintenance - Aluminium Windows

One aspect of spring cleaning that is often overlooked is the maintenance of your aluminium windows. Over time, aluminium windows can accumulate dirt and grime, which not only detracts from their appearance but can also impair their functionality. Here we’ll give you some tips and tricks for cleaning and maintaining your aluminium windows to ensure they're looking and performing their best. So, let's get started!

Cleaning
To preserve the attractive look of the products, they should be cleaned regularly. Clean products not only give your product a better look but also helps it to retain its functionality and durability.

· The best course of action is to use regular hot water and a sponge for the cleaning, but you can also use a mild detergent to help make any dirty spots go away.

· Don’t use any alkalis. Both the aluminium profiles and the glass are sensitive to alkalis and should not be exposed to such chemicals. If the product for instance has been exposed to concrete water or plastering mortar on the anodized or varnished aluminium profiles and/or glass, it’ll be even more important to wash it away with regular water and a sponge or a rag.

· Do not use detergents with abrasive additives or scrub with, for example, Scotch-Brite. This presents a danger to the mechanical function of the product.

· Cleaning the glass surface of aluminium windows is an essential part of maintenance, as it ensures that natural light can enter the home unimpeded and helps to maintain the windows' longevity. Use a solution of warm water and mild soap, or window cleaner to clean your windows. A piece of soft cloth or a sponge is the best tool for the job. Use a dry microfiber cloth to dry the glass surface, so that you’re sure no watermarks are left behind.

Maintenance
Regular checkups and adjustments of the products should be completed to maintain a good function and long lifetime of the products.

· Movable parts in fittings and sliders must be lubricated lightly, so they don’t become slow or get stuck. Make sure the aluminium guide rails are clean and inserted with a little acid-free Vaseline on outward facing vertically and horizontally hinged windows.

· Check that the screws for the fittings are tightened and that the fittings are correctly positioned.

· For facades, windows, doors, and glass roofs you must check that drainage holes are not blocked, that the glazing and rubber strips end close together in the corners, that the opening elements are correctly fitted, and that the cover is firmly in place.

For optimal performance, we recommend that you check your windows twice a year, to see if they need cleaning or maintenance.
